I just bought the bike from a local shop. It had been raining and I wasn't able to test ride, but I said the hell with it and trusted the guy and bought the bike for a fair price. The bike is awesom. Big step up from my '77 GS 750.
My first ride on it, I notice the idle was a bit jumpy, but I figured I didn't warm it up enough, or it was cold out and that's what bikes do??? Next day I rode it over 100 miles and the problem got worse. Idle rpm' go from about 800-500 rpm constantly. It's a constant rev to almost a stall at idle. Once I roll on the throttle, no issues at all. The bike is great while it doing anything but idling.
I took it it back to the shop I bought it from. Guy tells me to adjust the idle higher to get rid of the issue. At roughly 1200 rpm, the tach needle only fluctuates a little. He agrees to look at it but tells me it's a 17 year old bike and that's what happens with old bikes. I call his bs and tell him to fix it because I have a '77 GS 750 the purrs like a kitten and stays steady at around a 700 rpm idle.
I love the power of the GSF1200, but don't like the idle issue. Shop owner told me the carbs were cleaned, re jetted, and synched. Any ideas about what could make the bike have an irregular/ jumping idle? It has the stock air box on it and an RS-3 pipe.
