Does the raised part of the split collets {the half moon shaped things that go on the stock pipes} face the head or the other way ? Stupid question I know but when I pulled the pipes off they went every where

I know that, but does the flared of the half moon part go in towards the head or our towards the collar. I really appreciate your help. I'm assuming by your comment that its out towards the collar but the parts diagram shows then in, that's why I'm confusedComment
