Carburetor GS850G

[GS450slashGS750]

I wonder if anyone would be kind and tell me if a GS 1000 1978-1979 carburetor will fit on my GS 850 G 1979.
I understand that i will have to rejet it to get it tuned with my 850 but is it others than that completely the same carburetor?

I bought a GS 850 and the previous owner have for some reason swapped the carb and instead installed a later 80:s carb with a ugly looking adapterplate at the intake. I would prefer to have the original carb and found a used carb from a GS 1000, thats why i want to know.

GS 450 - 1981
GSX 750 E - 1982
GS 850 G - 1979
CB 500 K1 -1975 2 of them
CB 750 K7 - 1977

I think that there was a change of carbs in the year/s you described between VM & CV Carbs I think the inlets are different and not interchangeable.
There are people on here with more knowledge in that department than I so wait to see what they have to say about it.

79 850 uses the VM carbs same as the 77-79 1000. Jets will need to be changed.
