    Engine redlines at startup

    [SOLVED]
    Guys
I just cleaned/rebuilt the carbs on my 84 GS1100GKE and now when I try to start it up, it immediately redlines.
The boots and seals are new. Noticed that I cannot adjust the play in the throttle cable. Any ideas?

Slacken the throttle cable, and adjust it correctly. If that doesn't work, check the routing of the cable. Make sure the ends of the cables are fully engaged in the housings, and not hung up on the adjusters.

@1980GS1000E Yeah, it surprised me when it kicked off.

@steveb922 That was it. When I took the carbs back off, I noticed that they weren't returning closed. I had about a 1/4 inch from the throttle stop to the adjustment screw..
Turns out the cable jumped the guide on the handlebar side of the cable.
