    AGS550 Airbox reinstatement

    Hey there,

I'm resurrecting a 1979 GS550, that the came with pods on. They are prety knackered and it doesn't run that well. I am going to take it back to an airbox. I've bought one, nd it seems to have quite a few things mounted to it judging by the amount of bolt holes.

Can anyone post some pics or one in situ to help me along?

If you download the factory manual from

you'll probably see lots of pics. Sometimes they're hard to see details depending on the quality of the scan.

Just to doublecheck, is the airbox also from a '79? Just asking because the '77 has slightly diferent dongles, so does an '80...

There is not much mention of the air cleaner in the factory manual. Just a page on how to remove the element. On the babbits website it shows the air cleaner in isolation.

          Any pics anyone?

Can we see what you bought so we can help explain it? The top and bottom holes on the plenum will match up to the airbox itself while others will have the fuse block, starter solenoid, regulator, rectifier, and such

FYI: The carb clearance is really tight for the 550, so expect a very frustrating time getting the cabs back in there. Try it before you bolt the airbox in place.
