VM26SS Choke/Starter spring(s)??

Hi Y'all

Rebuilding my '78 GS750's carbs and when getting to remove No.4's choke plunger I found that it had three weak-ish 1/4" springs, whereas the other plungers only had one stronger 3/4" spring. I was assuming that the PO made poor substitutions on No.4, but because these springs combined don't compress as low as the other plungers, they almost act as a 'travel limiter' for the entire choke line.

Were these three springs on No.4 plunger intentional at factory or are they a poor attempt to replace a lost spring once upon a time? I've not seen any mention about this setup in the GS tutorials or online, so...what's really proper?

Ink pen springs mght work......maybe?

Definitely not like that from the factory. Like Chuck said, I would try to find an ink pin spring about the same stiffness, or another choke assembly for that carb.

Thanks for the replies, guys. And ya know, I contemplated canabolizing an ink pen for it's spring-funny you mentioned that. My first thoughts were that it'd still be on the weaker side of the other three, but it's length would be closer to original. Seeing as you went there too I'm gonna give it a try.
