GS1150 carbs on a GS1100
I’ve come across a clean set of 1150 carbs I’d like to fit on my GS1100... currently equipped with k&n pods, a v&h supersport 4-1 canister, and ‘83 cams set at 105/107. My question is: do I want to install the factory pro needles I’m running in my 1100 carbs, or leave the stock needles in to start? It looks like the dynajet kit is the same for both bikes... even though the 1150 uses an x-3 needle jet vs the x-1 on the 1100. I’m assuming the x-3 is 0.010” bigger based on what I’ve seen from Mikuni sizing. Anyone have any experience with this?Last edited by Tom R; 01-13-2019, 08:44 PM.-1980 GS1100 LT

I ran a set of Canadian BS36 carbs with Dyno-Jet carbs. When the engine was a stock bore but with 340 webcams (4:1, pods) I would run the stage 3 DJ138 mains and it ran fine. Basically the jetting with BS34 and BS36 is close to the same on a stock 16V 1100. -

Set them up the same and run them
You'll have more top end
You'll need flexable intake pipes or go ahead and get the 1150sComment

Thanks for the input. I’ll measure the needles when I get a minute, but it sounds like running the stage 3 factory pro needles would be better than stock. I’ve been scratching my head a bit seeing that dynajet uses the same needle for both the 1150 and 1100, but factory pro sells a separate kit for each bike.-1980 GS1100 LT

I'm happy with the factory pro needles on the 1100, I guess I'm trying to figure out if they use the same needles in their gs1150 jet kit as well.... like dynajet.
But I agree, I don't feel like chasing my tail starting with the wrong parts.-1980 GS1100 LT

If you have something running on a BS34, then moving the same to a BS36 will probably not change much. Mixing DJ and FP though is apparently not straight across. Apparently, main jets change substantially when moving between diff needles. I have only used DJ needles, but Rapidray sells the FP needles and this is where that info is coming from.Comment

I've measured the GS1100 and GS 1150 stock needles, 5D58 and 5D59 respectively.... the only difference between them is the 5D59 has and adjustable clip.-1980 GS1100 LT
