Anybody know the procedure for fitting the carbs on 80 550L .I've got the carbs on but now air box will not fit should I of fitted the air box first then the carbs??.

Yes, airbox should in place before carbs.
You should also loosen the battery box and rear fender to gain a bit of wiggle room.
The opposite of this procedure. Don't forget to attach the throttle cables to the carbs before installing them.

On many bikes, the airboz will be put in place, then the carbs are slid in between the airbox and engine.
It also helps if you pop the front of the fender liner loose. You can then push the airbox back another 1/4 to 1/2”, which is a BIG help.

The air box should be in place, set the carbs into it and snug the clamps (not super tight but enough they will stay on), and then slide the carbs and air box forward into the intake boots. Tighten the clamps on them then bolt the air box into place and reset the fender back into its holesCowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace
