    Get the GK running again

    Hello everyone. I’m a returning member. Own a ’84 GK. Haven’t ridden it for a few years.
    I know I’ll need to replace the battery and tires and oil change and …..
    First thing is a complete carb tear down and rebuild.
    I’m following the CV Carburetor Rebuild Tutorial. I also have a Clymer manual for the bike as well as the Suzuki GS1100G service manual (99500-39022-03E).
    More importantly I have all you gurus - so I’ve run out of excuses not to do it.
    I’ve ordered the O-Ring kit from cycleorings.
    Bought an ultrasonic cleaner (from HF). Tested it today using Dawn. Seems to work ok.
    I searched the Forum for threads about using an ultrasonic cleaner. So I have a feeling for what they can and can’t do.
    I’ll let ya know how it goes.

    Starting the rebuild.



    First thing I found was a stuck float - stuck open.


    On the bright side the HF ultrasonic cleaner is working great so far

      Those carbs look relatively clean. You shouldn't have too much trouble. Just be sure to follow all the steps in the tutorial. Also you might want to check the Newbie Mistakes thread linked in my signature so you know what to look out for.

        At a minimum... flush your brakes!

        New lines (and maybe new seals) might also be in order if they've never been done. You may find the piston seals are ok but a lot of gunk hides behind there, especially at the rear. To split the rear caliper you will need a new O-ring that goes between the halves at a minimum.

        You can do the twinpot brake mod on that bike (link below), it's a heavy bike and more brakes never hurts!

          +1 on flushing the brakes. Thanks for the reminder

          So I finished the first carb. Opened the second one and found a pilot jet plug melted in half. Guess I need to source some of those plugs.

            Carbs back together. Bench sync done. Might have time tomorrow to see how it runs.
