    Can I Make a 1979 GS750 Vance Hines Header/Exhaust Fit On a 1979 GS1000?

I have a lead on a '79 GS1000 motor to put into my 79 GS750. I know that the exhaust systems are not directly interchangeable, but cannot be done without major modification?

If the simple answer is "No", I may just nix the whole GS1000 motor idea. Thanks in advance.

I would have though the pipe diameter is different (smaller at the head) but may still work. Some possibility you have to change the rear fixing or make a bracket. Just a guess though!

My only experience with that is with the 850 (which is based on the 750) and 1000 shafties.
Rumor has it that they are remarkably similar to the 750 and 1000 that you have in mind.

I had a 1000 pipe that I wanted to put on my 850, but found that the bolt holes on the header have a slightly wider spacing, I would have had to make them larger toward the center. At the same time, another member (who does not live very far from me) had an 850 pipe that he was hoping to put on his 1000. He had noticed that the holes were too close and would have to enlarge them outward. He saw my post, we got together, compared pipes and swapped.

As Salty Monk mentioned, you might also have to make an adapter at the rear mount.
