What is this part in the carb? Fixable?

    20190923_114538.jpg

I just bought this 1978 GS550 and it's not running right. I'm rebuilding the carbs and I found this? Can I replace this part? The 'tube' is cracked and missing that restrictor that the other 3 carbs have. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Fuel pickup tube for the choke. Pretty sure you could replace them but it would be a bit of a project. I did a similar tube replacement for the overflow tube in the float bowl on some Keihin's, but have never tried to replace on of those tubes.

BTW, the carb rebuild tutorial located in signature may help you...

Thank you for the information and help. Since its choke related will it effect the way it runs if the choke is off? Do you think this is a must fix?

Almost no effect when choke is off
Easiest repair is to buy another carb body in the Parts Wanted

It can be replaced. It is pressed into the carb body. If you have an extra, get out the pliers! You will have to be very careful when installing a replacement or you will damage it. (ask me how I know?)

When I die, just cremate me and put me in my GS tank. That way I can go through these carbs, one more time!

Thank you for the help. I think I will just leave it for now. I will keep my eye out for some salvage ones and save it for a rainy day. I think for now I will just get it going and see what else it needs. Thank you for all the help guys.

solder the split. then add just a drop of solder over the end. find drill bit the size of the others and drill it open..thus replicating the orifice.

EDIT...note there are bleeder holes right at the carb body...dont solder those shut.

I just had an overflow tube on my 78 1000C crack along the seam. Little solder and was good to go. Go light on the solder,,"just enough" to seal it.
