Quick question on fuel sending unit please

Hose barb on the fuel sending unit mounted on fuel tank(1100e).
Just a vent line to be routed down open ended correct?

For a hose to take petrol away from the top of a hot engine if the sender ever sprang a leak. Longish hose draped over the back of the engine. Loads of bikes missing that hose for decades and I've never heard of a leak but there's always a first.

      It is a vent line
It goes back, behind or around the air box
