1980 gs1000e what carbs should be fitted as standard

    Just a thought on the picture of the carb set, the idle adjuster knob is on the top. A gs1000 with VM carbs, 26 or 28 the adjuster was on the bottom between 2 and 3. So that set could be from a 750 or a 79 850g.
    My bikes 79 GS1000 1085 checked and approved by stator the GSR mascot and 77 GS750 with 850 top end, GS850g, and my eldest sons 78 GS550, youngest sons GS125. Project bike 79 GS1000N

      Wasn't the first year of the 16 valve, 1100 (1075) cc 1980? So I thought the last year of the 1000E was 1979.
      1982 GS1100E V&H "SS" exhaust, APE pods, 1150 oil cooler, 140 speedo, 99.3 rear wheel HP, black engine, '83 red

      2016 XL883L sigpic Two-tone blue and white. Almost 42 hp! Status: destroyed, now owned by the insurance company. The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

        Not sure about the States but we still had a chain-driven 8-valve GS1000 in 1980, as well as the new 16-valve model - GSX1100ET to us Brits.

          Yep, I've had all of them, "80" GS1000E, & "80" GS1000G, both 8 valve & GS1100's 16 valve. Don't forget the "80" GS1000S, it was an 8 valve, with CV carbs. & funky petcock, the "79" GS1000S had VM carbs. & a decent petcock

            Yes, the 1100 came out in 1980 with a 16-valve head.
            Not sure about the existence of a 1000E in 1980, but there was definitely a 1000S, known as the "Wes Cooley" model.

            Back to the original poster (ste gs1000), as you can see, there can be a bit of confusion regarding the year of the bike. The definitive answer should be on the steering neck. There should be a plate there with the exact model and serial number. Yeah, that will be for the FRAME, somebody could easily stuff a different engine in there. The engine also has a serial number (and they have NEVER matched the frame number), so that can give a clue to the engine's age.

                  If you're talking UK (Upper Kentucky), Their "80" GS1000E models were a beautiful blue metallic & deep red metallic. If UK (Ukraine), I haven't a clue.

                          Are you sure?? So Ukraine doesn't have any GS's, I really never knew that, just figured they were everywhere.
