    Speedo cable routing

Hello all! 1983 GS1100ES. The hot weather is just about over here and i just got it going again and was about to sync carbs, get new tires, change oil, etc. Anyways, threw the tank on for a quick test ride and when turning bars right the throttle would just shoot up. I recently had to rewire ignition and thought i had routing back correct but messed with it a good bit and no luck. Finally was about to pull and lube cable.. Anyways just curious if anyone had recommendations for routing issues and also if un-lubed vable can cause similar issues

There’s likely a cable routing guide in your factory service manual, available for free download on BikeCliff’s Website, linked in my signature. Top center column. If you haven’t already, bookmark that site. You’ll need it. We all do.

(Section 16-page 22is the SD but probably close?)

Don't know what all you've messed with. Did you possibly get the slack adjusted out of the cable? Just be sure there is slack there.

As rphillips suggested, it might not be a routing issue, simply a lack of proper adjustment.

For some reason, the engine speed rises when the bars are turned to the right, but not to the left.

Loosen the adjustment under the throttle grip, you should probably be OK.

That's what happens when you switch the stock handlebars to one's with a lower rise but keep the stock throttle cable. I know, because my bike suffered from this phenomenon for nearly 10 years before I got around to shortening the cable.

The throttle cable/spaghetti is too long.
