1986 GS400S No Lights/Power when I turn the key
I have a 1986 GS400S, It had been running perfectly fine until one day I went to start it and it had trouble starting, once it fired up it was running poorly and backfiring as well as brightening and dimming the gauges. I shut the bike off and tried to turn it back on but got no lights or power at all when I turned the key. I have replaced the stator and the battery and still zero lights or power when the key is turned. The fuse that is inline off the battery was blown so I replaced that as well. I can't seem to find any other fuses? Any Ideas on what's going on? -
I didn't remember a GS400 in 1986, but a lot of things I don't remember. I do remember many GS's have a "main" fuse in the fuse panel, usually the top one.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. ZRX 1100 -

Would you happen to know where the fuse panel would be? I feel like I have searched every square inch and cannot find any other fuses accept for the one inline on the wire coming off the positive battery terminal. Have opened up the headlight and one doesn't seem to be there, checked under the tank, around the battery box, by the ignitor and resistor and just about everywhere else and can't seem to find any.Comment

I guess I spoke when I should have kept quiet. Looked up parts diagram. Only 1986 GS 4 anything I found was an "86" GS450L, and saw no fuse panel. I'd thought anything with turn signals, headlights and an ign. system would have a fuse panel (block) but maybe not. Wish I could help... Possibly check NEG cable for good connection at both ends. Well not just NEG, check both ends of both cables.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. ZRX 1100Comment

Thanks for your help, turns out it was just the main fuse. I had replaced it with a brand new fuse, so I figured that it couldn't be the cultrate but I guess that one was a dud. Put in another new fuse and that solved the issue.I guess I spoke when I should have kept quiet. Looked up parts diagram. Only 1986 GS 4 anything I found was an "86" GS450L, and saw no fuse panel. You said you didn’t remember a gs400 in 86, so I figured I’d show you a picture. This model was only available in Canada and Europe for this year - that might be why you don’t remember it.1 PhotoComment
