Where would I locate a cdi unit for my 80 550L

It's an ignitor.
Virtually no chance of finding a 40+ year old one that's going to be reliable, you'd be as well to look at replacements from Dyna, etc.

Sorry yes it's the igniter a few online but too expensive with import and customs charges.

There's the Dyna... and there's the Chyna Dyna....

I bought one of these last year, but haven't fitted it yet. It seems ok, but who knows - it's cheap enough.
Otoh, a couple of forum members have tried the Chyna and it works ok.
