How do you remove the needle from the tach?

The tach on my 1100 went bad after a short. I bought a separate set of gauges and was going to swap the tach electrics between the two gauges. I can't figure out how to remove the tach needle through the face of the gauges. Do i just pop the needle off the shaft? Do i need to pull the shaft with the needle attached through the front of the gauge?

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Gently lift it over the stop and note the position it comes to rest and use a table fork to gently pry it off the axle it pivots on

Checf and I recently had good sucess and avoided breaking the needle by using a couple of flat edged scredrives on both sides (yes there were two of us). We both twisted the blade to create a force on the back of the needle. We inserted buisness cards on the gauge face to avoid maring it. Did two gauges that way.
