    Coil Sweat?

I fixed my short on the ignition. Still wouldn't start. I did a full voltage check and found I only had 7.2 volts and the coil. So I did the coil relay mod. Still wouldn't start. I got fuel but coils won't fire. I check the ignitor all good. Checked the pick up all good. I have a clymer and followed steps in it and steps I found on this website. I think my coils went out But I never seen 2 go out at the same time. With it switched on my coils had a waxy film collect at the bottom of them. I never seen anything like it. I'm very goood with electrical work. I'm an ASE Auto Diesel and LPG Tech. And I specialize in electrical and electronic. These bikes are unique. I don't mind working on it but I do want to ride sometime. Please help.

They are stock and the plug wires are dry and have small splits. But i have done the water mist test and there was no ark. I do want new ones but witch ones? I found some that have changable cables and some low ohm.

        Hi,

3-5 Ohm on the primary and 20-28k on the secondary is stock If memory serves me
        Ignitor's are around 80ohms

if your getting 7.2 v at the coils then the Ignition module is getting the same voltage. Mine will not fire below 9 vdc or is hit and miss.

        Food for thought

The coils are junk if they are leaking.

if U go below 3 ohms U will fry your ignitor

presumably the 7.2V got better after the coil relay mod; he did not report. My ED was a "hard start" at <10V

I got 4 ohms at primary and 26 at secondary and my ignitor is 86ohm. The coils started to sweat after the relay mod and I got 12.6 vdc at the coils

Well sounds like everything is OK electrically it is just that your coils have sprung a leak and need replacing
