I believe the + sign on the battery marks the spot where your tongue goes in order to test the polarity.

I have checked the polarity that way... kind of a metallic taste... changed the color of my eyes... I did replace the cams and rockers in the GS. had it right on the 4th try... then Trippivot degreed them for me... I will let you guys know how fast it is by early summer.
