A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

'83 GS1100G spark plug wires are cracked and probably need replacing. A few years back I asked a similar question about replacing the plug wires, but mis-placed the replys. One was from "squaredancer Lynn", but , sad to say I lost her reply.
It would seem I could get spark plug wire (solid or carbon?) and replace just the wire part. I'm supposing the metal ends (coil end) are ok; not sure what's up at the plug cap end.
Any suggestions, hints or tips what to look for? Plugs are new; coils seem to be ok; just wires to plugs are cracked.
Thanks for your input,
Bob Young

Bob,
You should try the search function, the answer is there. One trick is to use the Advanced Search, and then limit the search to Titles Only. Try "coil" or "wire" or just play around, this topic comes up all the time.

Bottom line is you need to dig the old wire out of the coil using a pick or similar since the wires are not intended to be replaced. The post in the coil and the caps are threaded so try to unscrew them and see if you get lucky. To replace these parts get some 7mm solid core copper wires and new NGK caps for the plugs - Z1 Enterprises will have the parts. You can also use suppressor wire and non resistor caps - buy a kit at the auto parts store. The archives has more details of what to do so please search out more information to educate yourself before attempting the job.

Good luck

I replaced my gs 1100 coils with Bandit coils & then replaced the wires with Dynas from Z-1. A PITA to remove but now everything is new for under $30.00.

Be sure and call Z1, don't use their web site. They will know exactly which NGK caps to use (there are many different angles) and they are extremely helpful. Personally, I would stick with factory-type and not use automotive wires. They are different for a reason.
