    Powerless over 6000rpm

    Hello all,
1983 GS550E. As you can see from the topic, my bike seems to be powerless from 6000rpm and up. I am going to start with the carbs (a good cleaning and sync), but....I'm thinking it's something else. Could it be an igniter issue. Maybe not advancing the timing as it should? Coil issue, not able to handle the load? Crank trigger? I'm just looking for places to start rather than guessing. Thanks. If any other information needed, just ask, I'll see what I can do.

Doing the carbs and making sure the airbox is in place and well sealed is where I'd start. cycleorings.com sells an O-ring kit and make sure you replace the rubber carb boot O-rings if your model bike has them. If that don't geterdone, could be ignitor as you mentioned.

What exhaust are you running? A free flowing pipe without the required jetting changes can run like that. Or if the exhaust is partially clogged up it will have no power up high.

      Likewise, what airbox?

Has it ever run well, or did you just buy it?

Bike is bone stock. I emailed the folks at cycle o-rings. Hopefully they have what I need. Gonna start here. Once the bike is running right, I do have a 4-1 exhaust for it. (i'll re-jet once i get the other issues worked out.) Thanks for the help.
