stator paper test-clarify please
so was doing the carb syncin and to do some of the steps i was starting the engine(a lot because i was so slow at setting up, so the more i worked it, the harder it got to start, then i checked the battery and found it to have just 11.0v. so now i think i have no charging because i had been revving the engine, so it should be holding a charge. charged battery and tested it with load tester(good battery). now you know how i got here, so to the point now. stator papers> the fault finding page>first step. disconnect the stator wires and check the ohm readings, must be between .5 and 2.0 ohms, that means not .001(which is continuity, and the reading i got at all 3 points), so the stator is bad? my meter is a dmm and a good one not the cheap $9.00 one so i trust it. if the stator is bad, replace the rr also? the bike is a 79 gs500en. thanks

Actually that is not the first step but if all the windings are truly shorted then you need to pull the cover at least to see if the wires got squeezed under a cover somewhere.
It seems a little suspicious, so I would recheck your meter and do a zero adjust to confirm your stator is a dead short (use the lowest ohm scale). -
Yea and by the way it seems that is the test to run first when checking the stator.Comment

Like Mr. Posplayr said, check multimeter if you're concerned about ohms readings. When my dmm gets a weak battery ( even before low battery indicator), I get inconsistent low ohm readings.1981 gs650L

,took me long enough. i did a shot gun approach and got both the stator and rectifier. replaced them and now i have charging going on.. OK, so i finished trying to synch the carbs and i have a little problem still. when i am trying to pick up speed from 4,500rpms up it seems slow or flat and strains to get above 7,000. it will get there just not as quick as from idle to 4,500.what could i be missing..
