1981 Suzuki GS450 fuse?

does anyone know what size fuse it takes?

ok thanks i just repainted it and was riding it and the fuse blew, now as soon as i put the fuse it it blows, i must have a short in there somewhere, any thoughts of where to look first?

All I can suggest is start disconnecting things until it stops blowing.

Either that or start measuring for continuity with a multimeter and if you get continuity where you shouldn't, there's your problem.

Does it blow as soon as you put it in or only if you turn the ignition on?

When you repainted, did you disconnect anything electrical? If you did, have you double/triple checked you got everything plugged back in the right way?

Just re-read your post and had another thought... if it was ok at first and you were able to ride, then it blew, and now it keeps blowing, it sounds like maybe something has sliced/stripped/melted some insulation on a hot wire that's now wedged against something that's grounded and shorting out.

Maybe when putting tank and/or panels etc. back on you've managed to wedge some of the loom which has caused it to rub or slice the insulation for this to happen?

The wires. Do you have a wireing diagram, manual? Check headlight bucket, alot of connections there. Look for melted wires. Check all bulbs. Generally, black wires are ground. Check that you haven't any black wires connected to a something hot. Good luck.

it blows as soon as i put it in, even if the ignition is off, im going to have to tank the tank back off and try to find my short, i just put in a new stator and had to put a new coil and headlight on, im getting this bike going for the 1st time, so im slowly getting there.

I'd start by revisiting everything you've touched, and check all the other wires in the same areas you've touched.

Could be as simple as dislodging a cable tie that's now allowed a hot wire to rub against the frame or a bolt or something.

When my 450 has an electrical problem, it's usually a connection in the group of wires by the airbox. For some reason they like to come unplugged.
