80 GS1100E No spark

Tried to fire up the 80 gs1100E that I just purchased and its a "no go".
The bike is completely stock and very clean. It has 23000 miles on it. The fuel petcock was shot so I installed a pingel. Put new gas in.
Put a new battery in her, sprayed starting fluid in the air box opening to carbs and tried to fire her. Cranked like crazy but no sputtering.
Pulled #4 Plug and laid in on the block. Cranked it. No spark. Did the same on #3 no spark. Tried a spak tester and clipped it to block istalled in Number four spark plug wire wire #4 them #3. Again no spark on either
Checked fuse block, got power
Checked orange coils wires at the coil got about 10 Volts
Tried a spare ignitor I had. Still no spark.

Taking a break now. any ideas? im thinking ignition (its the original, very clean though in there)and I dont think a dysna s is available for the 16 Valve 1100.

Let me know if Im missing something stupid and what I can check next.

First thing, please throw that ether in the trash, or save it for working on your car. Never use that junk on a motorcycle engine.

Next, there is a Dyna S for the 1100.

10 volts at the coils is low. Either your battery is low or you have a lot of voltage loss. The coil relay mod may be in order. I'd sort this out and check for spark again. If still no spark I'd suspect the ignitor, although it could be the signal generators, or the wiring connecting all the various ignition parts together. If someone monkeyed around with the wiring maybe there is a short in the kill switch? Time to get out your multi meter and start checking the various circuits.

Bad grounds? At the coils, engine block, fuse block, etc.

Nice bike
Make it happy and put a good ignition in it.
Dyna S is a good one with the Green 3ohm coils.
Won't break the bank either.

Well Problem Solved. I had a Dyna S in the Basement I had taken off a 79 1000E I once had. It went right in and I wired it up to the stock Coils. Checked for spark. YES!!! Threw it all back together minus side covers and took her out.
MAN is this bike fast!!!! (And I haver had lots of 16V 1100's)I hadn't even adjusted the timing yet and it was scary fast (yes Ill leave it where its at). Bike needs fork seals badly and I think that made front end feel all over the place.
Aside from the speed I cant believe how large and long and roomy the 1100 feels. I have been riding my 1000Es exclusively for two years now and the difference is highly noticeable. (Good for us tall guys)

Those are two beautiful bikes there Brutha! Once i get my 1000S together I'm going to start looking for an 80 or 81 1100E.

Ha ha, I know. that backrest sissy bar combo cracks me up. Don't worry it's coming off once I get the front forks done. So you have an 80 Cooley ... You've got me drooling.

I am new on here and not sure if I am responding correctly here, but a lady just contacted me sayin she has an 80 gs 1100e she was gonna restore but decided against it. 800 bucks. I have not seen it or talked to her yet, but I could get some info for ya if you want. Bike is in Cleveland Ohio area. I was lookin for parts and she contacted me tryin to sell the whole bike. Let me know.

If the fork seals are bad chances are the forks have lost air also. I set mine at 4psi with the balance tube open. Makes a world of difference in how the front end feels.
