New Dynatek coming!
Just ordered a new Dynatek ignition from Z1. Any installation tips or advice are welcome. Removing a very old Gerex unit. Bike is a '79 GS1000E. Chris at Z1 was very helpful.Tags: None -

I got the "S" model. Talked to Chris at Z1, he says my Accel supercoils should be fine. Got new caps and plugs coming, also. Should really wake the bike up. Not shooting for top of the line performance, since this bike is already faster than I am. Just looking for a little better than points, plus ease of maintenance. I'm gettin' lazy in my old age.Comment

Great service from Z1 Enterprises. Ordered Dynatek, plugs, and caps Monday, got the stuff USPS today. 3 days is not bad. Probably take me longer than that to install the stuff. Also. the cheapest price on the ignition I could find. Thanks, Chris!Comment

I bought an 80 gs850glt project bike that the po gave up on
It came with a dyna s ignition new in the box
Is it really worth it to put it on ?
I think the po might have thought the bike still had points when he bought it

He might have thought that the ignitor was bad. The Dyna S replaces the whole ignition other than coils, including the ignitor on factory EI bikes.

This is my first GS, and my first Dynatek, so I can't attest to how well they work together. But typically, electronic ignitions provide a hotter spark, allow the engine to rev quicker, are maintenance free and last forever. These are all plusses over points in my book. This bike has an old Gerex ei, probably one of the first made. Not the latest technology, and it has a Brain Box. This new one is self-contained. So yeah, it's worth it. I think if I was in your position, with a new one in the box, I'd get the bike running well first and then switch over.Comment

It just had a new signal generator
Only came with the stock igniter
New dyna coils were on the bike already
The bike barley runs so the SG could be bad
The bike came with a Clymer manual that had info on 79 (points) then skipped to the new ignition in 82 so just looking at the book you would think the bike came with points
Ray that’s my plan
Was going to go work on everything else then put it on and see if it makes a difference
Started my own thread on the bike

I'm glad i ditched the stock ignition, and they were all new components, -nother lesson learned.
