    Aftermarket cateye brake/tail light

    Hi all,

I've done a lot of research and can't seem to find any DIY installs for aftermarket brake lights. I ordered a cateye brake light for my 1980 GS550E and noticed it only has 2 wires while the stock light has 3. I'm assuming 1 of the 3 is a ground wire, so is it even possible to use the 2-wire light? I'm really confused about wiring with these old bikes so any help is appreciated!!

It should be grounded through the mounts to the fender. One wire is for the running light, the other for the brake light.

Cat eye doesnt make street legal lights, do they?

My guess is it's a plastic case, in which case it's ground and positive, and you can't use it. You need a dual filament setup.
