Won't Start

The float height on these floats seem wayy off. I measure 18.4, when they are supposed to be 22.4

To reach the 22.4, I just pull the little float tab correct?

I put a little plumbers grease in the slot, but it still won't stay down. I will have to open the tops again and make sure it sticks.

Since you don't have a toaster oven, how about a hair dryer to heat boot up till it gets slightly sleepy?

Sure will ! I thought Mr. Nessism's carb tutorial mentioned this somewhere. Anyways, so the flat portion of "boot" ain't sticking down- I'll assume you got tab in right spot? How about a little dab of grease to hold it down?

I am in the process of rebuilding the carbs. I am having a problem getting the rubber diaphragm to stick into its little slot when putting the top of the carb back on, is there a secret to get it to stick in its groove?

I don't think I have it sealed in the groove all the way on carb 1, will this cause a problem?

I bent a tiny hook on the end of a dental pick. Works great for retrieving items from those little holes.

How long are you leaving the carb in the dip? The carbs must be completely disassembled.

I dipped each carb. for 24 hours as well as the jets, etc.

The washer is out, looks rough though. The rubber o ring was split. The cavity is empty, I put a screw driver down the cavity, and moved around, nothing. I just dipped the carb, if it's in there it may come out now.

In this case, it's just a spring- you might find a suitable replacement at a hardware store, cuz all it does is put tension on mixture screw. But please no springs from pens!

On carb 4 though, the pilot screw is missing the spring! Is it imperative that I replace that? I was just curious.

The spring "holds" the idle/air mixture screw at the spot you've chosen- you don't want it to change as you go riding around, Right? You sure the spring/washer is just not stuck in hole?

I just put carb 4 into the dip.. I am waiting for a pilot screw for carb 2, and the intake boots to arrive.

There is no way I could fit an extension on the impact driver and strike it with a hammer, this was NO room to swing a hammer with the stock impact driver tip.

I did plug the intake, but forgot on one, it got some residue in it, will it be okay?

I went ahead and picked up new intake boots and clamps from gssuzuki.com, I knicked the boots pretty bad with the dremel...beer, lol. Good thing it's tax return time

Use vacuum and magnet asap.Even in cramped spots, I can usually get my 5 inch long genuine Vice-grip "end on" on a screw head like this. The crushing action of jaws will break the screw head to engine head seal- then you can use another wrench on the vice-grip to complete attack.

There is no way I could fit an extension on the impact driver and strike it with a hammer, this was NO room to swing a hammer with the stock impact driver tip.

yeah, or at least a vice-grip end on ! Of course, after a few beers, the dremel has its virtues- hopefully he plugged intakes.

On another note... I had a few beers tonight, had a go at the carb intake boots....good god! I had to pull the dremel out and grind down one screw on the inner boot, I will have to on the other as well more than likely... but I actually got some frustration out grinding the screw down... granted I will have to more than likely buy at least one new intake boot, but I had a good time. I actually laughed at myself! I am glad I picked up the new intake o rings and fasteners!
