Guest repliedThe parts list for the intake side doesn't show the number 11 boot. I assume I need numbers 9-13 on the diagram. Hard to read these.

Not according to the parts fiche. Go to http://www.gssuzuki.com/fiche_select...les&mfg=Suzuki, enter your bike year and model, and have a look see. You'll get all the part numbers you'll need.
Just remember you'll want the engine side for sure and possibly the air box side. You'll find the engine side under the cylinder head section

Guest repliedYes. The previous owner took off the choke button. Nothing is attached to the choke.
I still have the air filter element. I cleaned it yesterday. I have not checked to see if its saturated though.
I was thinking the whole time maybe the petcock is bad. It looks in bad shape. I can't find one online either for my specific bike. But if I win this 650G tank I may need to buy a new one.

Now that you have tank off, do you see the remnants of a choke lever dohickey- would be right next to throttle cable attachment at carbs?

The hole is about a pinsize. I think it may be hard finding another gas tank for it. I wouldn't mind modifying it to a cafe racer style either... No experience with that either though.

Guest repliedYet another example of why the manual is not correct for everything. The best lube is either chain wax (~$15) or DuPont Teflon Multi-Use Dry, Wax Lubricant from Lowes (~$8). Guess which one I use?

Guest repliedI wouldn't use "chain oil", I would just use motor-oil like the manual specifies.
But I guess it depends which kind of chain you have?

Guest repliedAlthough aftermarket parts are available, I prefer to use OEM parts for this. Check the list of OEM parts suppliers from BassCliff's MegaWelcome.

Guest repliedAnyone know of a good place to buy the carb and air intake boots? I can't find the part number in the service manual.

Guest repliedYeah. I am looking into ordering the o-ring, fastener kit, and boots to redo the air system.
I put a bid in on Ebay on the GS650G tank. Hopefully I didn't jump the gun and it fits, if I happen to win!
This may turn into a winter project for me. Starting to get cold out.

Remember, the PO patched it so he could sell it and it did not hold. While you are searching for another tank, you can still do everything else using a temporary tank. I use a radiator overflow tank I picked up at AutoZone for ~$10.
Don't purchase a petcock until you know what tank you end up with, they are different for different years and even for different models of the same bike.
You should probably start on the other things you need to do, such as rebuilding the carbs, replacing intake boot o-rings, going through the charging system, adjusting the valves, etc.

Guest repliedOriginally posted by GS650E_81 View PostI am trying to figure out my options.
Can I bring it to a radiator repair/gas tank repair shop and get it fixed? I saw a patch kit at auto zone but I don't know if I would trust that..
Obviously buy another tank if I can find one...
The upside is if someone can confirm a 650G tank will fit, those are pretty plentiful, and likely could be had for $100 or less.

Unfortunately you have a bit of a rarer bird there. The chain drive version is hard to come by, I wouldnt sell it. Get a manual and immerse yourself in it. They're not hard to work on, but flying blind isn't a good idea.
