    Ricks RR's ????

I know that there ALOT of other RR's out there that can be made to fit my 1982 850,BUT I was wondering what was out there that is a direct plug and play??.I found these Ricks RR's and was wondering if they are any good.I was looking for a direct replacement to carry with me when I take off on my RTW trip in the next few years. Also the same question about Stators !!.

    Hi,

I can't use a direct "plug-and-play" stator or r/r unit any more because I have cut out the headlight switch loop from the charging circuit and replaced the bullet connectors with blade connectors. I suppose the Rick's r/r parts will do but there are cheaper/better choices available. Have a look at these links.

I agree with Basscliff that there are better options then "plug and play". But whatever you choose, remember that the only way that you'll know that your spare is good, is to install it and keep your current part as the spare.

None of the replacement R/R's seem to be much better than the stock units. Do yourself a big favor and use one of the better recomended units.

The biggest problem with the charging system is the wiring. Wiring the stator directly into the R/R should be considered mandatory, bypassing the factory wiring, as should improving the R/R grounds.

Rick's stators have a good reputation. Better than RM Stators or Electrosport (or whatever they call themselves these days). Getting a better R/R is also highly recommended (purchase a used FET R/R off ebay). There are tons of different threads on this topic so a little research will both save you money, and fix your bike right the first time.
