    hot wire

I restored a 1982 Suzuki gs750e using the information on this great site and its runs very well until yesterday.I was riding along and all
of a sudden the bike stopped running.I checked the wiring and found
the white and green tracer wire had gotten so hot it melted apart.
The wire is located near the battery and is connected to the stator.
Does this mean stator is nead of replacement?

Maybe, maybe not. But it does mean your regulator / rectifier is probably knackered.

Do the charging system tests- before the white/green melted and open circuited, it might have damaged the R/R. Before it died while riding, did you notice turn signals not flashing (this would indicate a no charging /low battery situation) ? The main fuse could have blow if R/R shorted to ground.
