    batteryless charging system inspection

After installing an accell batteryless capacitor kit,I want to retest the charging system. I noticed my r/r was warm to the touch after riding for a few minutes, and do not recall this to get a normal conditions. What are some good voltage values to see on a gs550 at idle? Off idle? I had 14.5v at idle with the lights off at idle , I believe this very acceptable.

You mean the part about R/R heating up in a few minutes? or the 14.5 volts at idle?

Both.... Were you riding it with the headlight off? That would make it "shunt" more & so get hotter.

On my bike with headlight off, I might see 12.7 volts (battery nominal) at idle- not enough output from stator for the R/R to do much. He's getting 14.5, thanks to capacitor gizmo- I wonder what he gets at 3k and the R/R has to do its job.

The RR processes around 10 Amps of power, that will generate some heat. It's got fins on it for a reason.
