Dyna-S on 82 GS1100G.....mechanical advance?

About to instal a Dyna-s DS3-2 on the 82 GS1100G. I was reading the instructions that came with it it mentions the need for the mechanical advance. Does the 82 have an electronic or mechanical? When did they switch to electronic?

You have an electronic advance. You need to find a mechanical one, it is a bolt-on part.

I have a 78 GS1000L motor in the shop on a stand at the moment. I can take the mechanical advance off that and use it on the GS1100, right?

No, you should put it in a museum, since they did not start L models until 79.
