Piston 1 not working properly

    Piston 1 not working properly

    It looks like piston 1 is not working properly: with current going to new spark plug you are able to couch the exhaust pipe it gets warm only.
    Should I look to the "amount of current" to the plug? Should I look to the carb? Please help!

    its just a process of elimination. have you got fuel(is the plug getting wet)?
    have you got compression? have the shims been set?
    check them all until you find the problem
    1978 GS1085.

      This still the 81 gs650??? put in your signature to aid us mentally challenged old folks. By " piston 1 ", you mean cylinder #1 (the one under your clutch hand) ?
      In prior post, you mentioned some Champion spark plugs which don't get rave reviews- I use plain old NGK D8EA at $2.50 each and they do the job. Anyways, you need to visit Basscliff's for ignition check first and then investigate possible carb problems- did you thoroughly clean carbs?????

        The bike is an '81 GS650G (shaft drive), cilinder #1 is under the clutch lever, I put NEW aurolite extreme sport, I'll put back the D8EAs

          Sorry, never heard of that brand.

          I would recommend sticking with NGK.

              when was the last carb sync? does it pull propper after 1/4 throttle?wot?
              I had 2 cool to the touch and a good carb sync cured that.

                Cilinder # 1 not working properly

                I have my mind set for this weekend:
                1. Remove the gas from the tank
                2. Remove the tank
                3. Check the compression in each cilinder
                4. Do the valve adjustment ( i do not know if was ever done and I have 30plus K miles)
                5. Hope that everything gets better including the #1 cilinder.

                  5. Hope that everything gets better including the #1 cylinder. Hopefully the valves have not been damaged from being too tight all these years. Checking the compression again after adjusting the valves will tell you a lot.

                    Well, make sure you have a new cam cover gasket on hand; you'll likely find out you need a different valve shim or maybe multiple shims. Remember; DO NOT rotate camshafts unless all buckets have a shim installed. review this link from Basscliff's site
