79 gs 1000 ignition upgrade, help please

I recently received what appears to be a stock gs electronic ignition pickup along with accell yellow coils and wires to replace the points ignition and stock coils, wires on my 79 gs 1000L. Will I need an "igniter" box or some sort of atu rotor for this electronic pickup to generate spark signal? If not what else do I need to run this, if anything? Thanks a ton.

    What do you have ?

If its just the pickups you will need an ignitor.

If you have a Dyna S then you won't need an ignitor because its all built in.

With the dyna S you will still need the ATU but use the dyna rotor.

If its the stock pickups you will need either an ATU or plain rotor and an ignitor with built in advance.

All depends on what parts you have.

      Pictures would be helpful

If it's stock and you need an ignitor, a Dyna S is probably less expensive

        Pickup

picture of what is likely stock gs electronic pickup. or am I lucky and is this the dyna s (fingers crossed)? This is all I have, there was no igniter or rotor included and the guy I got it from didnt have any other components with it. However, he got it in a parts box not installed on a bike.

I can't see the thumbnail well enough to see what it is. This would be your Dyna-S, and you would still need your mechanical advance. http://www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDet...)&item=DYDS3-2

83 and up 700 and 750's and the 1150's have the "set back" trigger like the shafty illustration you posted also.

Yeah. just looks like the igniters are different. wonder if they have the same plugs.

if so i would have sold all my 700/750/1150 boxes.
the shafty electronic boxes are different and several hundred dollars from the dealer...yeah crazy i know.
last guy with an 82 1100L i did a retro fit of an 80-83 1100E ignition on his bike for 200 parts and labor...he was happy and still riding today
