    Electrical Failure GS650G

    Hey everyone,

Got my GS650G running for the spring thanks to Basscliff's website, hats off to him.

Its been my daily driver to and from school but today on my return journey I experienced what I can only describe as complete electrical failure. It went down as follows:

    - bike was warm, I was just stopping at the hardware store on my way home.
    - turn key to start bike and neurtral light comes on and then fades
    - turn key off and on, light is strong again so press starter button, just a click.
    - turn key off and on again, nuetral light fades at random intervals in and out. try starter button couple more times just clicks.
    - push start the bike fires up.
-bike starts up and gets me home.
-Im not sure but it sounded a bit funny (could be my imagination)
    - once i get home investigate futher and nothing, lights dont work all, and it seems the bike has no power whatsoever.

I put a new igntion lock/switch console in from an 850G about 2 months ago as my lock was stuck. Its worked like a dream so far, but I thought it could be some dirt in the new switch. I hooked up the old one (very clean) and nothing on all settings.

Got the battery on a charge just in case and plan to investigate fuses tomorrow, but I just thought I would check in with the forum in case anybody has run into this sort of thing before. It seems pretty bizarre since the bike had been running flawlessly until now.

    Any insight would be appreciated,
    Hendrik

Check Cliff's site for the updated Stator Papers. Sounds like a charging system failure.

        Hi,

Sometimes my bike will act like that when the batter cables are loose.

Check where the ground strap from the battery connects to the bottom of the engine too.

        Thank you for your indulgence,

        BassCliff
