pulse generator question
I am working on my sisters Honda Shadow 500 and need to check the pulse generator for OHMS. I know this is a Suzuki site but you guys have been very helpful with my 82 GS450. I am looking for some instructions on how to check the OHMS for a pulse generator. I do have an OHMS meter but have never tried to test one for OHMS. I have been searching all night for a video on the internet that explains but can not find it.

on my bike you check the ressitance of the pulsar by setting the meter to measure ressitance then you place a probe on each coil connection.
Infinite resstance means a dead coil. Refer to you manual for the specific range they should show.
I believe mone show 250k ohms.

your signal generator has 3 wire, black , brown and green
put the multimeter in Ohm scale and you must read between black and brown ~60 to 80 Ohm
after put the probe between black and green and you must have the same reading

And this proves people don't read, even when they read.Originally posted by kokar View Postyour signal generator has 3 wire, black , brown and green

He's working on a Honda Shadow 500 that is his sister's bike.

Ok so the Manual states the Ohm reading should be +/- 10% of 480 OHMs at 64 degrees. I unplugged the wire harness and checked the OHMS and both read 400OHMS at 74 degrees. This is lower than the lowest allowance of 432OHMS (-10% of 480). With it being this much lower could it cause the engine to fail once it is warmed up?
I then checked each plug and wire for continuity and found one of the rear plugs to be burned up and not transferring. Going to the junkyard tomorrow to find another.

Thats what I thought..... I only found one bad plug wire so that will be replaced tomorrow if I find one at the salvage yard. Otherwise I have no idea what is wrong with this bike..... I installed a new ignition coil due to it burning a hole through it. Then started it up and it idled and revved up fine then once going around the block it lost power and went back to one cylinder only running..... I have spark and fuel and tomorrow I will check compression on both cylinders but otherwise I may be trying to catch the electrical rabbit without a net.Originally posted by tom203 View PostSure sounds close enough, check all connections, plug wires, etc.....

He's probably not allowed to board planes, so you can relax. Anyways, nice bike you got there, kokar! and I enjoy your electronic efforts, nice to see someone having a go at it!Originally posted by kokar View Postok, kill me killer2600 for my mistake !

Yes it is a twin plug bike.... and the first I have ever worked on... I have fixed the problem. I went to the salvage yard and found another plug wire cap and then found two complete engines in the engine room. I tested the pulse generators and the one tested inside the Honda requirements. I removed it and then took both items home and installed them on the bike. Now it runs like a champ. Thank you to all for the help and assistance in this matter.Originally posted by tom203 View PostIgnition coil with hole? Is this a twin coil bike? check and compare primary ohms on the stock vs replacement coil. This problem sounds electrical.
