Fuse box cover interferes with side cover.

I've got of a problem with the 83 750 fuse box going into my 78 GS1000:

With the cover on:

The side cover does not come close to fitting

with it off:

No problem.So I can switch back to an old glass style box which I'd rather not do.Or leave the cover off the 83 box.Opinions?

Wouldn't be easier just to leave the lid off?Modding it isn't as easy as it sounds.Spacer on the problematic bulge makes it a challenge.

Can you remove said bulge but slicing it off and making a flat cover from the remaining lower part? Kinda make a patch and glue it in and make it nice..then paint it black?

Use a shorter screw to hold modded cover on??
What does the backside look like?

May have to shave down that part the screw goes in as well once you flatten off the covers face???

Cover is 3 levels,pretty sure the upper level is the first thing making contact.

Here's the back.IF I could slice it off neatly enough I could probably fit something to the top.The real trick would be cutting it neatly enough

Get something that's the same ht as the bottom of the uppermost part to use as a straight edge.

Then slice it deeply on each side with a utility knife. Connect the ends of the slices along the bottom with a straight edge and score that line.

The one coved edge is a no brainer.

Maybe the edge of a belt sander? Just wear the hump off as flat as you can and not get the FUSE lettering involved????

Trick is too LIGHTLY score it first.Then you go back repeated times thru the same slot and keep cutting deeper. Blade will follow the initial scores.

Heck...just Dremel a window in the side cover..easy acess to fuses and no side cover removal required!!!
