    Stator - rectifier question

Can you ruin the rectifier by running the bike with a bad stator or vice versa ?

I'm sure all the electrical gurus will chime in shortly, but in a one-word answer to BOTH questions - YES!

If the R/R is putting out too much voltage, it could smoke your stator or ruin your battery, but you will never know until you run the tests, so it is not a good idea.

The stator puts out AC voltage to the R/R. If it goes bad, it puts out less or none at all. It will not harm your R/R by not putting out enough AC, or anything else in your electrical system because the AC stops at the R/R. If the AC side of the R/R goes bad, it could possibly take out the stator, but the likelihood is not very high.

Can't see how a stator could damage a R/R. R/R maybe could damage a stator (maybe) if it shunted too much current back.

yea the predominate failure modes would be R/R damaging stator.

I will have to think more if there is any way the stator could reciprocate.
