on my 78 1000E my turn signal works very sporadically. Sometimes it will stay on when I click it over until I cancel it, other times I have to hold it in order for it to blink. I took apart the switch and cleaned all the contacts which didn't help. I also cleaned the connectors where it plugs into the wiring harness. Relay seems to be fine. Do I need another switch?

Judging by your sig, you already have another switch. Take one off one of your other bikes and try it - you'll probably answer your own question. -

The search term to use is TSCU. There is a 'lot' of information on the matter. A couple 'tree' workarounds out there as well.
Yours is a first generation self cancel unit which were prone to failure.Comment
