    Another new Series Regulator Option?

In the specs for the new 2014 VStrom 1000

    Performance-Enhancing Electrics
A newly designed, open-type rectifier disconnects the magneto when it is not generating electricity. Plus, the magneto is more efficient than that of the previous V-Strom 1000. These two advances reduce mechanical losses, resulting in stronger torque at low and mid-range engine speeds ....
It certainly looks like a Shindengen device - no part number information at this time. It is possibly not too far a reach to speculate this could be one of the two 50A Series Regulators that they had listed as "in development"?

Most definitely a Shindengen. I suspect series type R/R's will become the norm at some point in the future.

Until I actually see the designation stamp I hesitate to use words like "definitely".

However, when you look at the specs for the SHxx1 dimensionally, comparing the two images (using just the connectors as a scale reference) it would appear to fit that envelope ......
Slightly wider and longer (just counting the number of heatsink fins)

Of course even if by Shindengen the released product might not even match either of the SHxx1 or SHxx2 development envelopes anyway!

Oh yes, most definitely. Jacques Shindengen is my uncle and he called to tell me about the contract he received to supply the R/R on the V-strom.

Maybe he can hook us up with a few dozen, for test purposes only of course?
