Don't even bother with the resistance tests. You can read good with a bad stator unless there is a toasty short. You are dealing with insulating varnish. Under no load it can read good and easily break down under load.Comment

Thx old vet .. and yeah now that you metion it , you were the one who told me that !!The best test of the stator is the running AC test unless you have a megger, the resistance tests are useless.. Didn't you have two pair that read low voltage, you want to be close to 70 VAC on all three pair? If not your stator is bad. I was the one who said the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.
When I spoke to the owner of this salvage shop . He seamed pretty nice and did assure me if there was a problem with the stator to just bring it back and well try another one ...
Keeping fingers crossed I get lucky on the first try !!Comment

Hold him to that or ask him if he has a megger. It shows megohm resistance under high voltage so you can tell if the insulating varnish is breaking down. You could probably get it tested by someone in your area for next to nothing by a company that deals in rewinding electric motors so you won't have to do this trial and error. The resistance check with a meter is only going to show up a direct short. My stator failed after a year of use after I installed a series R/R so this is a total crap shoot unless you test it with a megger or whatever the electronic equivalent is today. I didn't listen when they told me here that a dark color varnish meant it had overheated and would go bad. Don't accept one unless it is a medium dark amber color. You can still see all the individual wire windings through the varnish of a good one unless it is epoxy coated.Last edited by Guest; 05-30-2014, 11:41 AM.Comment

Thats great to know ty ..this place is 35 min away .so it shouldnt take to much time to pick one up . Install in bike then I can test it that way looking for 70 vac on each leg .... thxHold him to that or ask him if he has a megger. Hope one day to have half the knowledge you do in this department ...

No I am not, posplayr is da man, I knew a lot, but I learned here just like you are learning. PASS IT ON. posplayr has credentials and documented experience that most of us mere mortals wish we had. Check my post below, I added a way to visually tell if it "MIGHT" be good when you look at one.Last edited by Guest; 05-30-2014, 11:48 AM.Comment

I plan on purchasing a new R/R sh775 kit . New stator , 4 into1 exhuast , complete carb re build and stage 3 kit , pods too . But for now its one step at a time ... just picked up new throttle cables , never worked on these carbs before that has a cable for forward and reverse pull , but it should be fun ... break hoses etc to I wanna replace in off season ..Comment

Stainless steel braided brake lines are the best initial safety upgrade you can make. They limit hose expansion and put more brake force to the wheels. Unless I have you mixed up with someone else, you have responsibilities more important than just riding, safety and gear should be your priority. I will not suggest you not riding but you get my drift.Comment

OK, OK, enough already, my ears are burning.
As much as I seem to live on this site, I do have to do something that resembles "work" every once in a while.

I have one for each of your bikes, ready to go.
Yes, I can.
No, sorry, my pockets aren't quite THAT big.
Yes, stators shipped to the 'lower 48' of the US go for $85. That is basically $80 for the stator and $5 and a few cents for shipping. I just shipped one to Canada earlier this week, the cost is $25, so I can ship one to you for US$105. If you would like two of them, they will fit in the same box and ship for the same amount, so the total would be US$185. I could get them into the mail this evening, you might have them by the middle of next week.
Let me know.

Number 22. I'm an old fart pushing 67. I edit a lot and didn't want you to miss it. I'm not young and "invincible" like I thought I was in Vietnam. The brain has all the associated wear and tear. I think of a lot of things after I post.

Good to meet you Steve ... im Keith !!
Wow that sounds awsome !! Im assuming this is all done through pay pal ?
Unfortunately I dont have one of those accounts set up . Well had one set up . Just could never figure out how to get funds into it ... it was impossible to do with out a credit card , so I purchased a couple of those vanilla prepaid credit cards and it still wouldnt allow me to put money on the account ..
Ill check with the girlfriend tonight and see if she could help me get it worked out ...Comment
