    gs850gn 1979 uk model 12pole or 18 pole

    hi to everyone I have a gs850gn 1979 uk model will a 18pole stator work on the bike. the one which is fitted now is a 12pole stator regards nigel

    If it currently has a 12-pole stator, you need to replace it with another 12-pole stator unless you also change the rotor.

      12-pole stators are like hens' teeth nowadays and any you find are going to be already old and gnarly. Unless you rewind your own, of course. I haven't seen a stator rewinder offering one for a while.
      Otoh, there's no shortage of 18-pole rotors and stators to bolt right on - and that's what I would do /have done, indirectly. In a box of bits there resides a '79 12-pole rotor/stator and it's never going back on the road.
