He's speculating that there is a good chance that many of these things have misleading/obfuscating claims- and probably rightly so. Basically the shunt R/R's have been made obsolete,yet dealers have boxes of them. Plus, I bet a Chinese knockoff (a genuine series ) will be slow to arrive. If you get one of these, check it out - a simple AC current clamp meter will determine if it is actually a series unit and not just a glorified MOSFET shunt.

Just goes to show that you can't always assume that the factory knew what they were doing. In this example it is pretty laughable that nobody was reviewing the design enough to figure out that mounting an R/R near the exhaust was a bad idea.

I agree completely some factory engineers should be slapped right up side head.
Every time I here someone say. Oh but the factory did it like that for a reason so it must be right. I just shake my head and think to myself "Idiot"

My apologies to the OP for showing these pictures in his thread, but just to illustrate what "modern" designers can get up to! This is where the R/R is mounted on a 2007 Triumph Daytona 675.

I can see why Triumph selected that position, as the R/R formfactor is big. But with the proximity of the exhaust,a simple heat shield would have conducted exhaust into the frame and away from the R/R allowing it to breath a little heat.

Given the exact form factor between this mosfet unit and the SH-775, how long should/will it take for Triumph to switch over?

In other words, you have no first hand knowledge of this unit.

And no intention of, either. Given the genuine unit is so cheap, why waste good money on these shoddy imitators?
However, one thing I do have, is years of experience of shady dealers on and off the 'net - and my shady dealer alarm bells are clanging loud with these things.
