Get a good AGM and be rid of the acid fouled battery box and frame if you havent done so already.

I agree. Get a battery tender, also.

And check the bikes charging health a few times each season as well. Keep ahead of things and youll be riding way more than wrenching.

AGM is the way I would go. Some will advocate Lithium Iron as well for the weight reduction. Just move on away from simple lead acid and you'll be good for years. I wouldn't bee too concerned about actual manufacturer since most are made overseas by the same companies.

Thanks JT. I don't like the unsealed battery that is currently on the bike. And I don't like having to check the fluid level in it. Even though my battery tests good it may still be one of the sources of my intermittent weak spark problem.

If your battery tests good and your charging system is working properly, then I would look elsewhere for the source of the intermittent weak spark.

Prob the igniter. I have yet to actually properly test it. Pretty sure I'm doing it wrong. I'll have to to try 1.5 Volt battery method. I'll have to do more tests at the coils. It was definitely low the other day but I did not have the 12.6 volts at the batter required to properly test it as I accidentally left my headlight on during the test.

I may have to do the relay mod.

I've had pretty good luck with Duralast AGM batteries. Autozone or similar stores carry them.

No need for a battery tender, AGM batteries will stay fully charged for months. Years sometimes.

Their self discharge rate is near zero.

I am beginning my 4th season with a MOTOBATT AGM in my GS 1100E. No 'tending' required......... ever.

Even when stored in an unheated garage for the winter months?

My lead'acid battery didn't make it through winter, even on the tender. Just ordered a bike master 14L a2 AGM of of eBay.
