    Died while riding and wouldn't start. 80 GS550L

    Hey guys,

    I was riding when my bike started acting funny. It would get jerky when riding and RMPs were jumping up and down when opening throttle. When I slowed down my bike died.

    Trying to start it again I just got a click and then everything won't off. Not lights at all, no click when start button pushed. Then lights wouldn't turn on when key turned.

    A few minutes later it started just fine. I didn't try riding it though.

    Not sure what my problem may be or where to start.

    Any suggestions?

    Might be charging related so do this Quick Test and report all 6 results. Note that you need to start with fully charged battery to offer clues

      Sounds like it could be a bad connector in the wiring harness? Go through your harness and clean every connection. Clean the blades in the fuse box and replace the fuses with new ones. (Despite their simplicity, vibration and age have been known to make old fuses to fail in mysterious ways.)

        Okay,

        Thanks for responding. Sorry it took so long for me to run the test. There was a loose ground, but I also think me results are not what is hoped for.

          Looks like the charging system is good but the battery is weak. May not be your problem but that's what the test shows.

                Charging does look good except @ 2500 rpm. It seems low. Wondering if the stator is taking to to. 5000 home before it generates enough power. I would go phase b tests to see if you can detect a stator issue.

                the way it is you need to get to high sustained revs to get full charging output.
