    Battery Relocation?

Ive been looking at many pictures of really clean GS bikes, but I cannot seem to find the battery. The bike I have now is more of a brat style, and I would like to relocate the battery or remove excess wiring to make it look cleaner and expose the nice frame, but cannot find anywhere how to achieve this. So my questions are: can you run the bike off solely the stator and regulator? (my bike is kick start only), and if not, where could I relocate the battery and wiring so that my frame is exposed and the bike looks cleaner?

I've seen some relocate a small battery to the tail piece. I don't know about running it without one but afaik the battery performs a filtering function in the charging system and the bike would probably be better in the long run with one fitted.

Those who might be able to help you would be GREATLY helped if you would only give us a clue what bike you are discussing.

But, to answer your question, NO, you can not run the bike without a battery.

A very small AGM battery can be mounted at any angle, or you can replace the battery with a large capacitor. Haven't done this on a GS but other people have.

You could get away with a pretty small battery going kick start only. AGM is probably the safest bet. There are some tiny yet powerful lithium batteries (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F9LPIAC/...VXP9QR6V&psc=1), but you had better upgrade your regulator/rectifier to a SH775 or similar before even thinking about it. Some guys use little lead acid batteries meant for an alarm systems etc, but I don't think they are as durable as a 'real' motorcycle battery; even less so as you go to lower amp hour units (they also have different terminals http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DL9IBC/...AK462BTB&psc=1).
I have heard lots of stories of people with capacitors blowing light bulbs all the time, due the battery & r/r not being there to absorb voltage spikes. No experience with all of those options yet here, I am running a kick only '78 750 with the stock battery at the moment.
Check out some of the more 'cafe' oriented forums and builds for some ideas.

Check out this google search https://www.google.com/search?q=cafe+racer+build+battery+relocation&biw=1 920&bih=946&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0a hUKEwi7s5aBl7fKAhUmkYMKHVe8D5IQsAQIGw, you will see a theme emerge pretty quickly.
You've probably seen this, good thread to starter delete, starter clutch and solenoid removal, etc. : http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...r-motor-delete. You will lose ~8.5# with all of that removed, 3.5# of that is direct weight savings off the crankshaft.

If you choose to mount your battery into any new position it is IMPERATIVE that you provide adequate ventilation for it as well as a secure mounting.

Any position that is more closely confined than its original position can create a fire hazard as heat is generated during charging of all batteries and highly-flammable hydrogen is produced by all lead-acid types.
