    Left Hand Multi Switch

I've searched for pics and posts on this and found some so I've got most of the springs etc figured out (thnx Bonanza Dave et. al.). Somehow, I end up with one spring unplaced plus the little ball bearing. I know the 3 little identical springs go under the copper contactors to give them tension towards what they contact to complete a circuit (you can't see one of these springs because it is already in place under the little black plastic carriage that is in place in the circuit board thingy.. The big fat spring goes with the horn button. Another spring goes in the groove on top of the larger black carriage shown in the circle. I'm not sure if I have the correct spring in that groove? That leaves 2 similar sized springs and the ball bearing. I know one of the last 2 springs goes in a slot on the under side of the black carriage shown in the circle. I think it's probably the skinnier of the 2 remaining springs.

If I am correct so far, Where does the last remaining spring go and Where does the ball bearing go.??

The frustrating thing is, I think I figured this all out a couple of years ago.

I've taken apart a couple of those switches and struggled on how to assemble it until finding Bonanza Dave's photos. Check this thread, it should answer most of your questions...http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum...t-Horn-Buttons

        Turn switch button

While you have yours apart, can you show a pic of the back side of the turn switch button? I'm not sure if there should be two tabs or one. I've got 2 switches, and both only have 1 tab. Maybe they both broke off of the same side?

Be sure to clean the contacts with scotchbrite or similar, and use dielectric grease on all the sliding parts.

          good luck

There appear to be 3 tabs but the middle tab is really just the section of the button that holds it in place. I will post a pic below with the button rotated 90 degrees to show what i'm talking about. I'm not sure all these switches are the same. Mine is from an '83 GS 1100GL

It's pretty fiddley getting all this back together but at least I see how it works now. I secured the spring-loaded copper contactors to the plastic carriage with a small piece of monofilament fishing line (to be removed after assembly) to get the carriage, ball-bearing, etc correctly seated in the circuit board thingy. . That worked okay but I had trouble getting the horn contacts and spring in place and the whole thing kind of came apart but at least I didn't lose anything. Oh well, I'll get it eventually.

When assembling the horn button, I find that if you put the copper hat next to the plastic button, and then the spring, the copper hat won't reach the contact point even when the spring is fully compressed. If you sort of insert/suspend the copper hat a couple of bends into the spring, it looks like it will work. Any opinions?

Thanks for the pics. Yeah, mine are broken. When I turn my button 90 degrees, it's only holding on one side. Guess I'll be hitting e-bay.... again.
