Bike dies when I let off starter

That would be unusual. The entire system voltage drops a few when the starter is drawing big current across the internal resistance of the battery.
It's most improbable that pressing the start button cures a defective ignitor. My money is on crossed wires.

Just an update.

The bike is running fine now with the new dyna ignition. So all is well. My gues is that when my charging system was on the fritz it must have fried one of the lobes on the dyna
