I'm running through the Stator diagnostics (bike won't charge) and have a question about cleaning connections. On Step #2 of the full test (checking red R/R wire), I get a really high number- like 2-3V (test says anything over 0.25V is bad). The ground test (step #3) shows 0.28V, which is above 0.25, but at least in the ballpark. The papers just say to clean the connections, but from what I can tell, there isn't any major grime to deal with.
The big question is whether or not to replace the connections completely. I've included a picture of the red wire connectors and the R/R itself so you can see the condition. The red connectors definitely have a "burnt" color to them, and while running the test, I noticed they were quite hot to the touch. Is this normal? Is this symptomatic of bad connections, or a bad R/R?
I also pulled the fuse box and cleaned some of the dirt off, but everything looks fine there.
