I've looked behind the headlight, behind the tail light, under the seat, by the fuses, and under the little cargo box behind the fuses and can't find the thing anywhere. Does anyone know where it is or could someone maybe post a picture in case I'm overlooking it?

They keep it hidden so you won't fiddle with it. Remove battery, mine is hiding there ,high and towards front1981 gs650L

Hi PunisherX2012 and Welcome.
Go here and download a service manual. They have cable and wiring harness diagrams that help locate most components. Either side of the battery box is a usual location.
I've never had to try this but the old style flashers make a clicking noise..................97 R1100R
